2 (More) Free Digital Tools In Instagram’s New Edits App
This video editing app keeps getting better
Hey there!
A few weeks back, I did an issue on 2 Free Digital Tools in a new app from Instagram called Edits.
Edits is Meta’s response to CapCut.
If you do any kind of video work on your phone, you should download it.
It’s free, easy to use, and keeps on getting better.
Know anyone who might appreciate what we’re doing here? Invite them to join us! As you know, we’re all really nice, and cool, and we all LOVE free digital tools!
Let’s dig in.
Instagram Edits Teleprompter
Tool type: App
I don’t typically use a teleprompter when recording short-form video.
But a lot of my clients like using one.
There are standalone teleprompter apps out there, and some of them are great. But now there’s one built directly into the Edits app!
You can write your script right into it, or copy and paste it over.
Then it will scroll right on screen, while you’re talking.
This is huge for anyone looking to stick to the script while recording on their phone. Highly recommend checking this one out if you’re looking to do more with short-form video!
FREE or FREEmium: FREE
Free! Like everything in the Edits app, it’s totally free to use.
Instagram Edits Speed
Tool type: App
Years ago, Instagram rolled out an app called Hyperlapse. It did exactly what it sounds like — and nothing else. You could take a video (you had to film it in app) and then speed it up.
That’s it.
I used to use it quite a bit.
iPhones eventually built the option directly into the camera app.
I also love using the iPhone SLO-MO feature.
But sometimes you capture a video and want to slow it down or speed it up after the fact. That’s not quite as simple.
Or it wasn’t… because that too is built right into Instagram Edits.
Upload (or film) a clip into the app. At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a bunch of control options. One is called “Speed.”
Select it and you can go from .1x all the way up to 7x.
Let’s say you have a one-minute video, and in the middle, you’re just kinda waiting for something to happen.
Go in and split the video just before and just after the lag. That will leave everything before and after the split as is. But you are now free too speed up or slow down that section in the middle until it feels right.
It can create a really powerful effect, and you’ll lose less folks who don’t want to wait around to see what’s coming next.
FREE or FREEmium: FREE
Another powerful free tool waiting for you in app.
