2 free tools waiting for you in CapCut
CapCut is a powerful free video editing tool that is definitely worth checking out.
CapCut is made by the same people who own TikTok, which is why you might notice on some TT videos, they are eager to push you to "try this filter on CapCut.”
CapCut is both a smartphone app and a desktop app.
I’ve been playing around with the desktop version for a while now, and my takeaway: it’s like iMovie, only a lot easier to use and a lot more powerful.
Take 2 seconds to forward Free Digital Tools to 2 friends, and then let’s dig in!
We’re on the honor system here. I’m going to trust that you shared Free Digital Tools with 2 friends before proceeding on.
Got it?
Thanks!
Let’s go.
Image Overlay
Tool type: Part of CapCut, a smartphone and desktop app
I first discovered CapCut because I was trying to make a short video with a screenshot of a tweet hovering over my head.
I saw stuff like that on TikTok all the time, and figured it would be easy to do.
Yes and no.
You cannot make that happen directly on TikTok.
But head to TikTok’s sister app CapCut and it’s SUPER easy to pull off.
The above is a screenshot from a video. It took me about 30 seconds in CapCut to make that work.
You can have it enter/exit the video as desired, add in additional elements… all that fun stuff.
And, if that’s not enough, you can use “tracking” to get an element to track motion on the screen. So in theory, I could hold up my hand and have that tweet bounce around as I move my hand back and forth.
For a full breakdown of how to set up tracking, head to this video and pop over to minute 15. It’s a great explainer video on using CapCut video features.
Enjoy!

Masking
Tool type: Also part of CapCut, still a smartphone and desktop app
With masking, you can really take videos to the next level.
I’m a musician. I play a bunch of instruments. For a long time, I could never find an easy way to show myself visually playing more than one instrument at a time. Enter CapCut.
Once I had everything recorded, I threw those three separate videos into CapCut, dragged them where I wanted them, and voila! (You can see the full track here if you want.)
The hardest part was ensuring they were all in sync with the audio track. But this really took just moments to create.
And that’s just the beginning. With tracking, you can make real magic in CapCut.
