Okay, pitch complete. On to our tools.
Remove.BG
Tool type: website
Remove.BG is short for “remove background.” And that’s exactly what this tool does. Put in a photo and it will remove the background.
Now if you’re a Photoshop whiz, or have a paid Canva account, this might not seem too exciting.
But this tool is simple, powerful… and free!
I have a friend who’s a professional graphic designer (and a legit Photoshop whiz!) who uses this tool because while she can remove a background in Photoshop, it takes some time and effort. Not so with Remove.BG!
Drop in your photo and in a matter of moments, it will strip away the background.
You can add or remove anything you want to add or remove, and voila… you’re done!
You can then choose from their backgrounds to use, upload your own, or simply pull your new background-less image as a PNG and drop it wherever you want.
This tools works great on desktop and mobile.
Since I mentioned it above, Canva (and a whole lot of other tools) offer similar functionality. But to the best of my knowledge, Remove.BG was the first to make this once-seemingly-so-complicated-process so simple (and free).
Canva’s alternative is great since it’s right there with all their other tools. But their background remover is reserved for paid accounts. So if you’re on a free account, head to Remove.BG, pull your photo, drop it into Canva and get to work.
OR just complete your entire project right in Remove.BG’s platform, which has gotten quite dynamic over the years.
FREE or FREEmium: FREEmium
They have a free version that’s been enough for me over the years. If you need LOTS of backgroundless-photos, or higher-quality versions, you can upgrade. Pricing starts at pennies per photo (depending on how many you need).
Snapseed
Tool type: Smartphone App
Have you ever been editing a photo in Instagram and found yourself wishing you had a more powerful toolkit? If so, then Snapseed is for you!
This powerful Smartphone app is chock full of powerful photo editing tools.
Simply upload a photo to get started (or take a photo directly through the app).
Then you can select “Looks” which are just pre-built filters or “Tools.” In my experience, Looks won’t get you much further than Instagram but Tools is next level.
Select tune image and you can move your finger left or right on the screen to adjust accordingly. Very similar to IG.
BUT THEN you can also swipe up and down for those next-level tools I promised!
You can select each of those options and adjust accordingly.
There are dozens of tools packed into this simple, free app.
You can mess with curves, balance, perspective, tonal contract, exposure… the list goes on and on.
When you’re happy with your final draft, you can share it right from the app, or save it to your photo library.
FREE or FREEmium: FREE
This fun and powerful tool, owned by Google, is completely free. Enjoy!
Hope you enjoy today’s tools.
Keep in touch. You can connect with me on all the social channels (I’m @jlemonsk everywhere except LinkedIn). Or directly through my website.
You can also just reply to this email of course.
See you in a fortnight,
