Today, let's talk Meta.
Hey there!
One of the many, many hats I wear is that of digital ads manager.
I’ve run ads all over (Google/YouTube, Display, Hulu, Peacock…) but I spend a ton of time running Meta (aka Facebook and Instagram) ads.
I’ve spent millions of dollars for hundreds of clients over the years.
Today I want to share some resources that will help you better spend money with Meta ads.
And scroll to the bottom for another bonus tool that you’re definitely gonna want to check out!

So let’s dig in.
Jon Loomer Digital
Tool type: Blog, video content and a whole lot more
Jon Loomer is the OG Facebook Ads consultant.
Which might sound like an insult, but it sure as heck isn’t. lol
Jon’s been sharing free content to help navigate this complicated, ever-changing platform since before I got into the business (ie - FOREVER!).
He keeps up with every change, big or small, and creates helpful content you can check out for free, no strings attached.
Have a question about Meta ads? Google your question with his name and you’ll almost certainly find a helpful blog post walking you through exactly what you need.
Seriously, the guy’s amazing. And prolific. And while I’ve never met him in person, I’ve engaged with him online many times over the years and he sure seems to be as kind and generous as they come.
If you run Meta ads (or you’tr trying to start), check out his blog, head over to his short-form video content, and feel free to keep digging — you’ll thank me later!
FREE or FREEmium: FREE
Jon has paid communities and courses. But I’m counting this as fully free, because his blog alone is a freaking goldmine for anyone trying to get better at running Facebook ads.
Facebook Ad Audiences Breakdown
Tool type: Podcast ep
As you might know (I mention it in my footer!), I have two podcasts. One of them is called Step Up Your Social. All episodes are short (10 minutes or less) and provide quick, actionable tips to take your digital marketing to the next level.
One of my first episodes broke down the 3 types of audiences you can use when targeting ads on Facebook (and/or Instagram).
In episode 4, we covered the difference between custom, lookalike and saved audience.
A lot has changed in Meta ad targeting since I put this episode into the world, but the general concepts haven’t changed.
If you’re looking to better understand Meta ad audience, check out this ep today. You can find it here or wherever you stream podcasts.
FREE or FREEmium: FREE
Like all the content I create, this one is free to check out. Hope it’s helpful!
BONUS TOOL: As promised, I have a bonus tool in today’s issue.
As you might have seen, Facebook is going to start deleting old Facebook Lives. Which is sooooo annoying. But, you know, Facebook… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They are telling folks to download any Lives they want to keep asap. And I’ve been working on doing just that. But I was having a problem — some of the Lives I wanted to keep weren’t created from my account. And as someone who’s worked with a lot of folks over the years, I didn’t always have a good solution to track down the original creator.
So I went down a massive rabbit hole, trying out tons of methods to download Lives. I found plenty of options and none of worked.
But I finally found one that did. (THANK YOU REDDIT!!!)
This Facebook Private Downloader has worked for me. Hopefully, if it’s relevant, it will work for you too. Good luck! 🫡
If you like Free Digital Tools, you probably know others who will too. Invite them to join us. They’ll appreciate it… as will I! When you refer friends, you can also win free stuff!!
Hope today’s tools are helpful. If you run Meta ads, I’d love to know what other resources you’ve found helpful for keeping up. Hit reply and let me know.
See you in a fortnight.
