Carrd.co
Tool type: Web App
If you need a website, there are lots of options out there. Looking for something with a ton of power and flexibility (though a pretty high learning curve)? Check out Wordpress (.org NOT .com).
Need something that looks good and is easy to edit and you don’t need to get too outside the box as far as functionality? Squarespace and Wix both have you covered.
(Working with a campaign or progressive org? Here’s a list of other spots you can check out to build out a full website.)
But if you need just a really simple landing page, quick and free, check out Carrd.co.
You don’t need a credit card to use it. Heck, you don’t even need to log in to start building.
I’m a musician. My “stage” name is Flannel and Rust. I’ve owned the URL since starting the project, but used to just direct it to my YouTube channel.
But I’m trying to book some gigs for the summer and decided I should create a simple website. I went to Carrd and in no time at all, I had built a VERY simple landing page.
Again, this is NOT a website. It’s a landing page.
I was able to use my brand colors, add in text and buttons, photos… all that fun stuff.
This can be a great tool for a quick event or product page, or a microsite for something you don’t want to live directly on your own website.
You can build up to 3 on your account for free (but of course you can have more than one account).
Or you can pay $19 A YEAR (!!!) to get all kinds of extra functionality. (Yes, that’s not a typo - it’s $19 per year, not per month.)
Quick, free, easy… get to building!
FREE or FREEmium: FREEmium
As I mentioned, you can build a simple page for free. Or you can pay a few bucks and get access to a bunch of additional tools and functionality. Have fun!
Mailchimp Surveys
Tool type: Web App
Okay, I’m a big fan of Mailchimp Surveys in particular. But in this case, Mailchimp can EASILY be replaced by whatever platform you are using to send emails.
Pretty much all the big email providers have this option.
Along with creating emails, you can also create surveys.
They’re free to create and don’t take long.
And then you can send folks to a unique URL (or embed the survey on a landing page on your own site) to fill it out.
Go to build a campaign and instead of selecting email, choose survey:
Then you can ask whatever you want.
Name and email (of course). But also “how often do you want to hear from us” or “which of these issues matter to you”?
You can even pre-tag folks based on responses.
So if they say they care about Climate Justice, they get tagged accordingly. And then you can send them climate-specific emails in the future.
A really nice way to deepen your relationship with, and your understanding of, your audience.
FREE or FREEmium: FREEmium
You can use this on Mailchimp’s free plan. Mailchimp is free on a limited basis or you can buy to increase your list size or for additional access to tools.
