2 Free Digital Tools To Keep An Eye On All Of Those Emails
See what everyone's sending... without subscribing.
Hello!
It’s been a fortnight. Thanks for welcoming me back into your inbox.
Know anyone who might appreciate what we’re doing here? Invite them to join us! As you know, we’re all really nice, and cool, and we all LOVE free digital tools!
Way back (almost a year ago), I shared a tool called Really Good Emails. When I started using that tool, it was free. And great.
But over time, it got paywalled and it’s no longer all that useful if you aren’t opening up your wallet.
These two tools have completely replaced that one for me. So I’m excited to share them with you today.
Milled
Tool type: Website
Milled calls itself the search engine for ecommerce emails.
Head to Milled.com and search by brand or keyword.
They have newsletters archived “from 112k brands from across the web.”
While they don’t have everything here, they have a whole lot.
You can search for Target. Or Joe Biden.
And then scroll through recent emails.
You can also search by keyword.
Here’s what I see when I search “guitar.”
Each of these emails can be expanded, and even the links work.
A pretty handy way to search for inspiration for future emails, or just to see what particular brands are talking about… without having to subscribe to 112k email lists.
FREE or FREEmium: FREEmium
They have a very useful free version. You can search through emails - by sender or keyword - from the last 12 months. If you want a lot more access, you can upgrade. Their pricing starts at $99/month.
Archive of Political Emails
Tool type: Websites
While Milled is great for brand emails, they don’t really cover political content. They have Donald Trump and Joe Biden. But not too many other politicos.
For political emails, head to PoliticalEmails.org.
They have you covered!
You can check out “The Firehose,” which is their full, real-time archive of emails, updated as new messages come in.
Or you can search by campaign or organization, as well as by party, county, state/locality and public office.
When I search for Joe Biden, I find this “sender profile.”
And then I can scroll down and see his actual emails.
A great way to keep up with a campaign without clogging up your inbox. Also a great way to check out what a particular candidate or political org has been talking about in the past.
Like with Milled, you can see full renderings of the emails.
Unlike with Milled, the links here don’t work.
FREE or FREEmium: FREE!
This tool is totally free. It’s a project of the Defending Democracy Together Institute, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to “preserving America’s democratic norms, values, and institutions, and educating the public on conservative principles like rule of law, free trade, and expanding legal immigration.”
Hope those are helpful.
If you’re looking to nerd out on email (especially political email), I’ve been doing a ton of blogging on the subject.
You can find those here.
If you like Free Digital Tools, you probably know others who will too. Invite them to join us!
See you in a fortnight.
Best,
Josh
