2 Free Digital Tools To Help You Better Spend To Your Values
Want to support businesses who align with your values? These tools will help.
Politics is everywhere. A whole lot of companies have weighed in politically, even if it’s not immediately obvious.
Brands that proudly sell rainbow merch for Pride Month also fund politicians who want to outlaw gay marriage.
Target rolled back their DEI initiatives, but continues to sell Black Lives Matter gear.
Today’s tools will help you better understand the politics of businesses, local and national, so you can better put your money where your values are!

Let’s dig in.
Goods Unite Us
Tool type: Website and app
Years ago, I had coffee with one of the founders of this app. I was so excited about what they were doing but I don’t feel like it ever really caught on.
But I still use it regularly when making purchasing decisions so wanted to share it with you today.
Prior to writing this up, I’ve only used their smartphone app. But I’m using the web version now while pulling this together and it works exactly the same way (minus some pop-up ads). So go with whichever works better for you.
The premise of Goods Unite Us is simple: you want to spend money with brands who share your values — they make that EXTREMELY easy to do.
Go to their website (or download their app) and search for a brand.
They will then break down for you how much that brand contributes to political candidates broken down by party affiliation.
Here’s Nike:
And here’s New Balance:
They’ll also show you alternative brands you might consider in your shopping:
They do have some other cool tools and features, but that’s the part I use and I use it kind of regularly.
Now you can too!
FREE or FREEmium: FREE!
This is a totally free tool. Download the app and start shopping by your values!
Public Square
Tool type: Website
I just found this tool through Reddit. It’s an interesting one.
It lists brands that consider themselves “anti-woke.” For me, this is a DO NOT SHOP list. But you know, you do you.
I’m pairing these two together because while Goods Unite Us is great for national brands, it doesn’t really do local. Public Square on the other hand is hyper-local.
Head to their map and search for businesses near you.
It will then show you a list of local businesses that paid to be listed on the site.
So again, if you’re looking to AVOID anti-woke businesses, head here. If you’re looking to shop exclusively at anti-woke businesses, you can do that too. (But if that’s you, you probably shouldn’t be subscribed to my newsletter 😇)
FREE or FREEmium: FREE!
This site is free to use for searching.
Hope today’s free digital tools help you better put your money where your values are.

Wow. I browsed PublicSquare’s X- what’s available for non-account holders… what a bunch of haters. Avoiding businesses that paid to support this platform. Thank you!
