2 Free Digital Tools To Check Out in Grok
Grok is Twitter's AI tool. And using it costs Elon money. 😏
Hey there!
As I’m sure you know, a while back Elon bought Twitter and promptly… destroyed it.
It was my favorite platform by far and he trashed it.
Every change he implemented made the platform demonstrably worse… with one exception: Grok.
Grok is Twitter’s AI tool.
And while I wouldn’t use it for much, it has a few features that are genuinely worth knowing about.
Bear it mind, I sure as hell don’t pay for Twitter! And you shouldn’t either!
When Grok first rolled out, it was only for paying users. But they’ve had so much trouble getting people to pay that they rolled it out to everyone for free.
And it’s definitely worth keeping in mind that every time you use any free AI tool, it’s costing someone money. So if you use Grok without paying for Twitter, you’re doing your part to take down Elon. I guess. lol

Grok Image Generation
Tool type: AI Chatbot
ChatGPT does image generation. As do loads of other AI tools. I personally haven’t found much use for any of them. AI “art” looks like it was made by AI. It’s not going to get you likes on social and everyone will know it was made by AI.
There are times though I want to use an AI tool to help elucidate a point. For example when Donald Trump was trying to claim Taylor Swift was a supporter (which is obviously not true!) I tried to get ChatGPT to make me some funny images of the two of them together.
Here’s the message I got from ChatGPT when I ask it to “make me an image of donald trump kneeling and kissing a ring on taylor swift's finger while she looks down at him in disgust.”
I can't create that image, but I can generate a different satirical or symbolic image if you'd like. Let me know how you'd like to adjust the concept!
Not very useful.
But if I put the exact same prompt into Grok, here’s what I get:
THERE ARE LITERALLY NO GUARDRAILS!
Is that a good thing? Hell no!
If our government wasn’t so broken (by Elon lolz) there would be all kinds of lawsuits to prevent this.
But here we are.
Should you use such images for commercial purposes? I personally wouldn’t without talking to a lawyer. But is it good to know this is something you can do? I sure think so!
And now you do.
And just remember that each of those above images cost Elon money to make. So that’s fun 😏
FREE or FREEmium: FREEmium
Freemium. I asked Grok how often I can make images for free and it says 10 times every two hours. But as always, never trust an AI Chatbot. haha
Grok Explain This Post
Tool type: Twitter tool
If you ever listened to the podcast Reply All (RIP), you might remember a segment called Yes, Yes, No.
Alex Blumberg (the founder of their production company) would come onto the show with a tweet he saw, but couldn’t understand, and the hosts — Alex and PJ — would try and explain it to him.
The goal was to get to Yes, Yes, Yes (as in, everyone now understood the tweet in question).
The segment was fun. And educational! Alex Blumberg would often find some bizarre tweets and the three of them would talk it through until it all made sense (or at least mostly made sense).
This free digital tool would make that segment redundant.
Now, every tweet has a little Grok icon in the top right corner.
Click it and it will pop open a DM explaining the tweet for you.
And honestly, it’s pretty good at understanding some of the nonsense coursing through that broken channel. Which makes sense since it was trained on the very same broken channel!
So yeah, the next time you see a tweet and you’re not sure what the heck you’re looking at, click that Grok icon and let it explain it to you.
FREE or FREEmium: FREE!
According to Grok this is free without limits. But, you know, that could change at any moment.
If it’s not clear, I’m obviously no fan of Elon. I recently hosted Evan Sutton, a badass digital organizer, on my podcast Hello Merge Tag to talk about the Making Tesla Toxic campaign. You can find that conversation here or wherever you stream podcasts.
If you like Free Digital Tools, you probably know others who will too. Invite them to join us. They’ll appreciate it… as will I!
See you in a fortnight.
